The Smarto Guarantee is a Guarantee Solution to get a Student Loan without a Family Guarantor.
We provide you with the Guarantee and we propose your file to our Partner Bank: too easy 😆
1- Guaranteed student loan up to 50,000 euros.
2- Online service open from January 1 to December 31.
3- Partnership with a major French bank to make it easier for you to obtain a loan.
A photocopy of your valid ID (passport or ID card), a school certificate less than 1 month old, proof of address less than 1 month old and your last 3 bank statements.
Once you have signed your contract with Smarto, you just need to approach our partner bank to establish your student loan. And we'll help you every step of the way.
A loan is binding and must be repaid.
If you cannot pay back your loan, it is important that you contact us to explain your situation and that we find a solution together.
If no solution is found, a debt collection service will take over. This is a legal procedure that can involve bailiffs to seize the money. You will then be banned from banking and will no longer have access to many banking services.
Smarto gives a guarantee and covers a student loan without a guarantor... Yes, it's quite logical :-)
This guarantee is an insurance product, and the risk of non-payment is covered by a guarantee premium.
This guarantee premium will be deducted directly from your student loan payment, so you don't have to advance any money.
This premium will only be deducted if your loan file reaches maturity, so there's no risk for you.
A guarantor is a person who is legally responsible for the payment of your loan if you do not pay. In reality, this guarantor can be a natural person (a relative, a friend) or a legal person (Smarto for example). This guarantor allows the bank to be sure that the student will be able to repay the loan.
In France, for a student loan, the guarantor is generally a close family member (parent, brother, uncle...), he must have a permanent contract in France and must not be too indebted.
The state can offer a guarantee for a student loan, under certain conditions.
Smarto goes further because we offer you a banking partner and a guarantor.
Smarto's guarantee is twofold! Firstly, it replaces your guarantor, making you an ideal customer for the bank - you have a reliable guarantor. Secondly, Smarto simplifies your access to loans thanks to its financial partner.
Smarto's guarantee for your student loan is simple, fast and 100% online.
Smarto doesn't require a guarantor - on the contrary, we guarantee your loan!
Smarto bases its guarantee on your future situation, not your current financial situation. You're a student, you're going to start working in a few years' time, and in 2, 3, 4 or 5 years' time, you won't have any more money problems. That's why we think you'll be able to pay it back, because we trust you!
A student loan is a loan that can be taken out while you're still studying, to finance your studies (e.g. tuition fees), your day-to-day living (e.g. rent, transport and food) and anything else you need (e.g. computer, books, school supplies). You don't need to provide proof of expenses once you've taken out a student loan: you manage your own finances.
What's special about a student loan is that repayment can be deferred until the end of your studies. For example, if you go to a 3-year engineering school after your preparatory course, repayment will start in the 4th year, once you've finished school.
The other special feature of student loans is thatthe interest rate is generally low (around 2%), because student loans are a social issue: access to education and student life for all.
All banks require a guarantee before lending money. In the case of a student loan, by definition, the student rarely has a permanent contract of more than 3 months, so he cannot be a guarantor himself.
The bank often asks the family to be a guarantor. However, this is not possible if the family does not have the capacity to guarantee the loan or if the family is abroad. In such cases, Smarto intervenes by guaranteeing your loan to the bank, instead of your family.
Of course, you're a student and your financial situation will improve in a few years' time. Nevertheless, for a banking institution, there's always a risk that you won't repay. For example, if you don't finish your studies, if you decide not to work after your studies, if you go abroad without leaving an address...
It's for these various reasons that the bank asks for a guarantor, and we hope it's Smarto!
Taking out a student loan is neither a good nor a bad idea: it depends on your personal situation. If your family allows you to finance 100% of your student life, you don't need a student loan... If, on the other hand, you need additional financial resources, you have only two choices: work and/or take out a student loan.
The advantages of a student loan: deferred repayment, low borrowing rate
The disadvantages of a student loan: you start your working life with a debt that has to be repaid.
Student loans can range from 1,000 to 120,000 euros, depending on the bank. The amount of the loan depends on your personal situation and your potential guarantor. It's important to borrow the amount you need for your student life, but don't go overboard - you'll have to pay it back...
At Smarto, we guarantee student loans up to a maximum of 50,000 euros, depending on your school.
For your information, a state-guaranteed student loan is limited to 20,000 euros.
Repayment of a student loan takes place in 2 stages: the deferment (which can be partial or total), which runs for the duration of your studies, and the repayment, which lasts for the period you have chosen.
For example, you borrow 20,000 euros over 10 years, and have 3 years left to study, with a total deferment without insurance:
- the total amount of your loan is 20,000 euros plus 10 years of interest and insurance (optional)
- after 3 years, you repay the total amount of the loan over 7 years.
A student repays his loan after his studies.
The loan term cannot be less than 2 years, but early repayment is possible. Repayments may not be deferred for more than 10 years after the date of the loan.
- Partial deferment: Only loan interest and insurance are paid month by month, with the loan principal to be repaid according to the schedule set out in the agreement, usually after graduation.
- Total deferment: Principal and interest are repaid according to the schedule set out in the agreement, usually after graduation.
You generally have to be over 18 and under 30 (depending on your banking institution).
For a state guarantee, you must be between 18 and 28 years old.
For the Smarto student loan guarantee, you must be between 18 and 29 years old.
Of course, a bank is not obliged to grant a loan. The bank can refuse you a loan if it considers that you will not be able to repay it, or if it fears that you will become over-indebted.
And that's where Smarto comes in! Unlike the state guarantee fund, which runs out within the year, Smarto can guarantee your student loan from January 1 to December 31!
No bank in France will issue a student loan without a guarantor. A few banks in France accept a government guarantee (Société Générale, CIC, Crédit Mutuel, Caisses d'Epargne, Banque Populairs, Crédit Agricole, Banque Postale Banque Française Commerciale Océan Indien), on condition that the allocated budget is not exhausted...
